7:09OK, so what I'd like to do first is

7:11I know Councillor Caden has a question.

7:27Thank you, through you, Chair.

7:30It's not so much a question as I spoke at the Walk for Alzheimer's

7:35over the weekend and I was mentioning to folks

7:37about our butterfly approach and how we have a lot of care

7:43in terms of folks who are going through dementia.

7:45And I was wondering if you just could speak a little bit more

7:48about that.

7:49I'm sorry, in regards to just dementia care?

7:53Yeah, how it helps folks with dementia

7:55as they go through their medical journey.

7:59Oh, so through how the butterfly, sorry,

8:02I'm just having difficulty hearing on my computer.

8:04So I apologize for asking clarification.

8:06So asking how the butterfly model is actually helping people

8:11along their journey.

8:12Yes, please.

8:14So I guess if we're going this way is the butterfly

8:17philosophy or approach to care is really how we're caring

8:21for people as they're on their journey.

8:24And everybody's journey is different.

8:26And I think one of the unique pieces

8:30that when we talk about butterflies,

8:31really talking about the concept of free to be me.

8:36And really about what that means for the individual

8:40as they're going on their journey

8:42and how we can make sure that we're giving them the best

8:46possible opportunity to continue to live as they choose to

8:52while they're experiencing these changes.

8:57And so the butterfly is really about the whole person care

9:00and not specifically just it does focus in on how we care

9:04for individuals with dementia and Alzheimer's

9:07or even my own cognitive impairment.

9:10But really it's about how we can individualize that care

9:15instead of saying we're going to care for everybody

9:16the same way.

9:17It's really about a personal approach or person-centered care.

9:21And so that's at a very high level.

9:24It's sometimes hard to describe how it's perhaps helping them

9:30along their journey, but really it's allowing them

9:32to experience life and making choices

9:36so that they feel fulfilled as they experience

9:41that journey they're on.

9:42I don't know if that helps explain that,

9:44but it's hard to sometimes put it in

9:45and it's different for everyone as they're going through that.

9:48So.

9:50No, that's great.

9:51I think in individualized health care is definitely

9:54something to strive for.

9:56And especially because we have residents who live in your care,

10:00that's even more important.

10:01So thank you very much.

10:09Yes.

10:09Thank you for the report and all this positive report

10:13on the butterfly effect.

10:14This is great.

10:15I just have a question about kind of staffing and regulations

10:20or qualifications of staffing.

10:21So I understand about termination.

10:24And is there a regulatory board that you are required to report

10:28to?

10:28And from my experience, I think back

10:30to the Ontario College of Teachers and a report

10:34to the blue pages around employee kind of concerns.

10:38Is that something that is done as well?

10:42Yes.

10:42Thank you for that question.

10:44Yes.

10:44In some cases, there are regulatory bodies

10:47and we are obligated to report depending on the position.

10:51And there are requirements to let them know the details

10:56as per their structure that they're working under.

10:59There is a voluntary body right now that is starting

11:04to oversee PSWs.

11:06So that's not fully in place.

11:08But anything like a nurse, an RPN, or a registered nurse

11:13would be required per their mandate to actually report.

11:24I have one question too.

11:27So on the incidence report, so there

11:31are three different disease outbreaks.

11:33And there was four residents.

11:36One had three residents.

11:37And the other one, the neurovirus,

11:39doesn't have a total.

11:41What is the number that you that we're at the point

11:45you have to declare an outbreak?

11:50Thank you, Chair Downer.

11:51So it depends is the best.

11:54So we work closely with public health.

11:56And based on what we're seeing, so the surveillance

12:01that the infectious control person is finding,

12:05they will consult with public health.

12:06And depending on what the outbreak is,

12:08whether it's respiratory, whether it's enteric,

12:11whether it's COVID, they will say, OK, how many cases?

12:14Is there close contact?

12:16Is the spread happening?

12:18Or are they completely?

12:20So a great example would be there's an outbreak,

12:24but there's two different residents in completely different home

12:27areas that have no contact.

12:28Is it actually an outbreak?

12:30Or is it something so they might monitor us for a few days

12:33before actually declaring that?

12:34So there might not be a precise number.

12:37It's dependent on a number of factors

12:40when we're going into outbreak and what the disease state.

12:43So for example, if we had two people sitting side by side

12:46at a table and they both are an outbreak,

12:48the likelihood is that is the first point of contact.

12:51And therefore, we would probably put into outbreak sooner

12:54than if they were in two different home areas

12:56within the organization or two separate buildings.

12:59So again, sometimes we're put into monitoring,

13:02and it could be two people.

13:03And sometimes it may take a few three to five people

13:06before they actually declare the outbreak.

13:08And we do that in consultation and partnership

13:10with public health.

13:15I had thought there was a finite number,

13:17but that clarifies that for me.

13:59We are celebrating Junior's Month.

14:01June is Senior's Month.

14:02There's a number of internal activities and partnerships

14:05with external care providers that are happening throughout

14:08the month of June.

14:10And so there's no specific, but we

14:12are planning for our regular great harvest event that

14:17will occur in the fall.

14:20And more information will be coming forth regarding the date.

14:25And I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible.
