0:02I'd like to guess who are attending the meeting.

0:05I'll begin with our territorial acknowledgement.

0:09As we gather, let us take time to reflect

0:10on our privilege to live and work in Guelph,

0:13a city built over rich indigenous histories.

0:16We are guests here, and we should reflect upon

0:18the responsibility to care for this land,

0:20the people who live here today, and the generations to come.

0:24If our actions today can move us towards reconciliation,

0:26we should take pause and make those decisions

0:28with intention and gratitude.

0:31This place we call Guelph has served as traditional lands

0:34and a place of refuge for many peoples over time.

0:37But more specifically, the Atawandurank and the Haudenosaunee.

0:41This land is held as treaty lands and territory

0:43with the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation.

0:46Guelph lies directly adjacent to the Haldeman Tract

0:48and is part of a long-established traditional hunting ground

0:51for the six nations of the Grand River.

0:53Many First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples

0:56who have come from a cross-turtle island

0:58call Guelph home today.

1:02I'll ask if there are any disclosures of pecuniary interest

1:05and the general nature thereof from committee members.

1:11Being no one un-mute or raise their hand,

1:15we'll move on then to the approval of the minutes.

1:18So the motion is that the minutes from the February 5th,

1:202026 meeting of Heritage Advisory Committee be approved.

2:06The next item as we're flying through this lengthy agenda

2:09today is chair announcements.

2:10I have none, but I will look to our friends

2:13from the city of Guelph if any of you have any Stevens

2:16put his hand up already.

2:17All right, Steven, off to you.

2:19And I'll try and be brief.

2:21This is to do with the Ontario Reformatory.

2:26And I'm gonna present it as good news and bad news.

2:30The good news says everyone's well aware council

2:33has provided approval with revisions to come to the plan

2:39and that's the good news.

2:40Bad news is that even once approved,

2:43the Ontario Reformatory Heritage District plan

2:46won't bind the province in the actions

2:50that they need to carry out.

2:52And unfortunately, the powerhouse building,

2:56it's chimney, the cannery storage building

2:59and the related service tunnel will be demolished.

3:02That's a decision that's been made

3:04through ministers consent.

3:08So if you see notice of that

3:12or if you see evidence of that happening,

3:13then that's what I'm referring to.

3:17This proposed demolition was reviewed

3:22by the Heritage Advisory Committee last

3:25in the January meeting of this year.

3:28So that's my update.

3:52I would just take a moment to note

3:53that the appeal period has closed

3:55on the Downtown Heritage Conservation District.

3:59There were no appeals.

4:00So the bylaw went into effect February 28th, 2026.

4:05So there's still work to do closing the project,

4:09updating our mapping, registering on title

4:13and all of the sort of the administrative steps

4:15that come next, but it is done.

4:19So I thank you guys last time

4:22and those thank you still stand, obviously,

4:24but wanted you updated on this sort of final big step

4:29of the project.

4:36Just to add to that, we were told

4:38that the Downtown was the first Heritage District bylaw

4:43of 2026 in the province of Ontario

4:47and the 151st in the province's history.

4:53For the Warrant Heritage District,

4:55I wanted the committee to know

4:56that we are planning an open house in the neighborhood

5:00for March 30th.

5:02It'll be from four o'clock at seven o'clock

5:04at the Italian Canadian Club

5:07and I'll circulate an email with those details closer to,

5:10but just wanted to give the committee plenty of warning

5:14that that's coming up.
