0:13I'd like to call to order the May 7th,

0:152026 meeting of the Heritage Advisory Committee.

0:19Welcome committee members, staff,

0:21and invited guests who are attending this meeting today.

0:24We'll move into our Indigenous Territorial Acknowledgement.

0:29As we gather, let us take time to reflect on our privilege

0:31to live and work in Guelph,

0:33a city built over rich Indigenous histories.

0:36We are guests here, and we should reflect upon

0:38the responsibility to care for this land,

0:40the people who live here today,

0:42and the generations to come.

0:45If our actions today can move us towards reconciliation,

0:48we should take pause and make those decisions

0:50with intention and gratitude.

0:52This place we call Guelph has served as traditional lands

0:55and a place of refuge for many peoples over time,

0:58but more specifically, the Atawandurunk

1:00and the Haudenosaunee.

1:03This land is held as the treaty lands in territory

1:05with the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation.

1:08Guelph lies directly adjacent to the Haldeman tract

1:10and is part of a long-established traditional hunting ground

1:13for the six nations of the Grand River.

1:16Many First Nations Inuit and Métis peoples

1:18who have come from a cross-turtle island

1:20call Guelph home today.

1:24And I'll ask the committee if there is any disclosure

1:27of the culinary interest and the general nature there of Liam.

1:31Yes, the McQuillan's Bridge assessment

1:35that was completed by my firm, TMHC Inc.

1:38So I'll recuse myself from any discussion of that

1:42and turn off my camera as we did last time.

1:45Perfect.

1:46And if you haven't submitted the form for that,

1:48we'll just ask you to do it and then we'll be back to you.

4:49I wanted to provide the committee with a brief update

4:53on the McClones Bridge Environmental Assessment.

4:56As you'll remember, engineering staff came to the committee

5:00in January of this year to seek feedback

5:03on the identified alternatives

5:05for the environmental assessment.

5:08The motion that the committee passed

5:10said to prioritize the restoration of the bridge

5:17as the preferred alternative.

5:19And if that's not feasible to rehabilitate the arches

5:23incorporating a new bridge.

5:26So staff are preparing to bring

5:28the environmental assessment results to council

5:32at their June 2nd committee of the whole meeting.

5:35I'll let you know that the results

5:37of the environmental assessment

5:39are alternative to is the preferred solution.

5:42So that's restoration of the bridge.

5:46The next preferred alternative was removal of the bridge

5:50and replacement with a new structure.

5:53That's primarily due to financial criteria

5:57and the weighting of the decision criteria.

6:00I wanna be very clear

6:01that that's not the heritage staff's recommendation.

6:03My recommendation would align with the committees

6:06to restore and then as a backup option

6:10to rehabilitate incorporating the arches.

6:13But I just wanted to let the committee know this

6:15ahead of that June meeting.

6:16And if the committee wishes to nominate someone

6:21to address council to convey the committee's motion,

6:24you may do so at this meeting.

6:31Thanks for that, for the update, Jack.

6:33Are there any questions from any committee members?

6:40We know when the council meeting would be.

6:44June 2nd.

6:45I believe it's June 2nd, yes, that's right.

6:49So just to note that Camyn and myself,

6:51neither of us are able to attend that meeting.

6:53So if there is someone else on the committee

6:55that is interested, as Jack said,

6:57we can appoint someone to attend

6:58and convey that message on behalf

7:00of the Heritage Advisory Committee.

7:14I think it is important that one of us goes.

9:36the Ward Heritage District Plan to City Council

9:40at their July 14th meeting.

9:43This will be for the public meeting,

9:45so that's just to get feedback from council or any delegates.

9:50And then we're intending to bring the bylaw

9:52to council at their September meeting.

9:56So we'll have another two meetings between now and then,

10:00so I'll keep you updated,

10:02but just wanted to give you plenty of heads up

10:05and agenda forecast for this significant project.
